Slopehill Lodge

Both buildings, all ten acres, and the one thing booking a single building cannot give you: the sauna, the ice bath, the spa and the gym, with nobody else in them.

The case for taking both

Six people can book the house. Ten acres is a different proposition.

When the homestead and the loft go separately, the sauna, the ice bath, the spa and the gym are shared between both sets of guests. Book the property as one and they are yours alone — which is the real reason a group of six sometimes takes the whole place rather than half of it.

It also solves the problem every large group has, which is that ten people in one house is ten people in one house. Here the second party gets their own front door, their own stair and their own kitchen, and everybody still eats together.

Recovery

Cold, hot, cold — and no queue for any of it.

The infrared sauna seats five and sits up on the rock above the pond, with the ice bath and the spa beside it and the gym below. The ice bath runs on a chiller, so it is cold when you want it and off when you do not.

This is the part of the property that works twelve months a year, and the part that changes most when you have it to yourselves.

The land

Ten acres, two miniature ponies and a few rescue pigs.

The pond takes ducks in the morning and the poplars go copper through April. There is a rail trail off the end of the driveway and lavender along the path to the paddock.

The ponies will come to the fence if you go and stand at it, which is the single most reliable thing on the property for anyone travelling with children.
