Privacy
What we collect, why, and who else sees it. It is a short list, and we would rather set it out than make you assume.
The short version. We collect what we need to answer your enquiry and run your booking, and nothing else. We never see your card number. We do not sell your information, and this site has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
Everything below says the same things at greater length, and adds the rest.
1What we collect
When you fill in the form on this site we collect your name, email address, the dates you are asking about, how many people are coming, and whatever you write in the message box. Nothing on that form is required beyond a name, an email address and the dates.
If you go on to book, we also keep a record of your booking and what has been paid: the dates, which building, the amounts, and the dates the deposit and balance were received.
If you ring or email us, we keep what you tell us for as long as it is useful to your stay.
2Your card
We never see your card number, and it is never sent to our website. You type it into a page hosted by Stripe, our payment provider, and it stays with them.
What we hold is a reference Stripe gives us so that we can charge the balance and, if we have to, the security bond. We can see the last four digits and whether a payment worked. We cannot see the number, and neither can anyone we might ask to look at our website.
3Why we hold it
To answer your enquiry, to take and manage your booking, to tell you what you need to know before you arrive, and to keep the records a business has to keep.
That is the whole list. We do not profile you, and we do not make decisions about you automatically.
5Where it is kept
Our website and its booking records run on servers in Singapore, that being the closest region our host offers to New Zealand. Stripe and our email provider hold their part of it on their own systems, which are mostly in the United States.
So information you give us is stored and handled outside New Zealand. We tell you this because you are entitled to know it; the companies involved are bound by their own obligations to protect it.
7How long we keep it
Enquiries that never became bookings are deleted once they are plainly stale.
Booking and payment records are kept for seven years after your stay, which is the period New Zealand tax law requires business records to be held.
8Asking what we hold, and having it corrected
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Write to reservations@slopehill.co.nz and we will reply within 20 working days, which is the time the Act allows us.
You may also ask us to delete what we hold, and we will, except for the booking and payment records we are required to keep.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
9Changes
If we change this page we will change the date at the top of it. If a change matters to a booking you have already made, we will email you about it rather than leave you to notice.
